ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan starts his official visit to the US today to meet with President Joe Biden and senior US officials.

The leaders plan to exchange views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest, highlighting a half-century of partnership in trade, investment, and security.

Ahead of the occasion, Martina Strong, US Ambassador to the UAE, said on Sunday that the US and the UAE boast growing ties and a shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Her remarks came in a joint op-ed with Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE Ambassador to the US.

"By continuing to partner together, exploring new opportunities and addressing shared challenges head-on, we are keeping our eyes firmly fixed on a better vision for the region and for the next 50 years of our cooperation," the op-ed said.

The US emphasised the importance of this longstanding partnership between the two nations in anticipation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s visit.

In Sunday’s post on its official X account, the US mission to the UAE wrote: “As we prepare to celebrate the arrival of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to the White House, we mark another significant milestone in our strong USUAE partnership.”

The post was coupled with a video highlight of the past 50 years of diplomatic relations. In the video, the US Ambassador to the UAE emphasised the deep ties between the two countries, noting that the “embassy in Abu Dhabi has been a proud symbol of the enduring strategic partnership with the UAE and our close friendship with the Emirati people”.

Ambassador Strong also praised both countries’ collaboration for driving and inspiring “revolutionary technological breakthroughs”.

“In our shared commitment to innovation, the sky is not the limit but just the beginning,” she added.

The leaders are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as advanced technology, AI, investments, and space exploration and coordinate on strengthening partnerships in security, defence, and counter-terrorism.

Joint efforts to address the climate crisis, energy transition, and initiatives to promote peace and prosperity are also on the agenda.
