ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Abu Dhabi Police (ADP)recently launched an initiative called 'Turathona Momayaz,' which translates to 'Our heritage is special,' in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Family Care Authority (ADFCA) and Al Qattara arts center.

Held at the Al Ain Police Officers Club theater, the event aimed to preserve the authenticity of cultural heritage and highlight its significance.

ADP's Commander Saif Saeed Al-Shamsi emphasised their commitment to collaborating with strategic partners to promote and preserve authentic Emirati heritage.

This initiative is designed to introduce new generations to Emirati traditions and reinforce national identity within society.

He affirmed that ADP is dedicated to documenting and promoting historical milestones, tracing the development of police and security forces in the Emirates from their inception in 1957 to the present.

This dedication has contributed to Abu Dhabi being recognised as one of the world's safest cities, he pointed out.

Emirati poet Awad Rashid, from ADFCA, presented a session on the past lives of Emirati ancestors, highlighting the challenges they faced.

Rashid emphasised that customs and traditions are fundamental sources of virtuous values and authentic Arab customs, with tolerance, generosity, and hospitality being central to Emirati culture.

He encouraged families to uphold local traditions as they are crucial for maintaining noble values and resisting influences that may undermine local heritage.

Poet Mubarak Saeed Al Khyeli discussed "Making in the Legacy and Heritage of the Emirates," focusing on the customs and behaviors associated with treating guests and the societal values they represent.

He stressed the importance of instilling these traditions in younger generations to reinforce social cohesion and solidarity.

Children engaged actively with heritage-themed activities, including practical demonstrations on greeting guests, preparing coffee, and interacting respectfully.

Al Khyeli and life skills coach Abdul Rahman Awad Al-Katbi highlighted the role of the camel as a significant Emirati symbol, discussing its various roles in racing, beauty contests, milk production, and meat.

The programme also featured a segment on camel supplies and tools.

Alyazia Suhail Al-Amiri and Siham Hussein from the ADFCA, under the guidance of professional skills coach Aisha Dawoud Al-Naeemi, showcased the traditional customs and roles of Emirati women.

They discussed women's contributions to family life, their endurance through hardships, and their involvement in traditional crafts.

Al Qattara arts center took part by hosting a free drawing and colouring workshop for children, led by coach Youssef Al-Risi, teaching them artistic techniques and encouraging them to reflect on the heritage of the Emirates through their artwork.
