DUBAI (ALETIHAD)
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in 2025. The agreement was finalised at the ICAO First Advanced Air Mobility Symposium AAM 2024, currently taking place in Montreal, Canada, and running until September 12.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, and H.E. Juan Carlos Salazar, the Secretary General of the ICAO.
H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi stated that the UAE continues to support efforts to enhance cooperation within the international civil aviation community under the ICAO umbrella, promoting the development and growth of the civil aviation sector towards more advanced and sustainable horizons. He added that the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium represents an ideal platform to unify efforts towards implementing the ICAO’s global plans aimed at enhancing safety, security, and sustainability in the aviation sector. The UAE's hosting of this distinguished event reflects the prestigious position the country holds in the aviation sector, both regionally and internationally.
The signing follows ICAO's selection of the UAE, announced in May 2024 at the 3rd Global Aviation Summit in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The GISS 2025, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, will bring together aviation leaders and experts worldwide to advance ICAO's objectives in safety, security, and sustainability.
The symposium will feature in-depth discussions, workshops, and exhibitions focused on implementing ICAO’s global strategies and promoting international collaboration. It will also highlight the UAE’s significant contributions to aviation innovation and sustainable development.
