ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The success of any research institution is not measured by its age but by the achievements it has garnered and the scientific contributions it has made. Thus, TRENDS Research and Advisory can rightfully take pride in what it has accomplished in the past ten years.

When the promotion of independent scientific research is a goal, knowledge dissemination is the objective, and precise analysis is the path, we are dealing with an institution that fully understands the essence and importance of its global and societal mission.

As the Center celebrates its 10th anniversary on Monday, September 9, 2024, it has etched itself as a towering institution in the world of scientific research and knowledge, securing a distinguished place among global think tanks.

From its ambitious vision in 2014 to the phase of empowerment and renewal in 2019 and beyond, TRENDS has made a clear mark on the research landscape. It has contributed by offering solutions, delving into issues, and providing insights and consultations to address challenges, actively participating in shaping the future.

Since its inception, TRENDS launched with a vision of becoming an independent think tank, dedicated to providing deeper understanding and more accurate analysis of various regional and global issues and developments.

15 branches and offices across continents

The Center achieved this vision through a set of strategic goals, including promoting scientific research by producing rigorous studies covering political, economic, social and cultural fields. It has also built networks through 15 branches and offices across continents, forged 285 partnerships with global academic and research institutions, and organized specialized scientific events while providing evidence-based consultations, disseminating knowledge through books, articles and studies, and offering training programs.

Achievements

Throughout its journey, TRENDS has achieved milestones, including the publication of over 864 research papers, 874 special reports and studies, 2,274 daily, weekly and monthly publications, 863 articles, 283 diverse scientific publications, 81 specialised training courses, 82 public opinion surveys, 63 private consultancy studies, 225 scientific events, and 58 participations in international book fairs.

Additionally, the Center has established research partnerships with over 258 institutions and think tanks worldwide, organized 239 research events globally, opened 15 offices across four continents, produced 63 podcast episodes with global guests, and engaged with 12 international parliaments.

We are Proud and Aspire for More

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, stated, “We are proud of the achievements we have made so far, but we aim for more and strive to be strategic partners in building a better future for our region and the world”.

He added that in the coming phase, the Center will seek to enhance its position as a global authority in strategic research, especially in future-oriented topics such as artificial intelligence.

Dr. Al-Ali emphasised that the Center’s successes over the past years and its future aspirations would not have been possible without the efforts of the team and the significant support from its partners, including research, media, government and private institutions.

He also expressed pride in the fact that most of the Center’s staff are young Emiratis, both male and female, who have demonstrated competence and excellence in all areas, including research, training and administration.

He explained that upon a brief review of the Center’s achievements over the past years, the level of progress made by TRENDS is clearly noticeable, along with the increasing trust it enjoys among researchers, partners and think tanks from various parts of the world.

It has recently released a unique index regarding the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood on a global scale, launched in several countries and in multiple languages.

Additionally, it has issued several editions of the Muslim Brotherhood’s International Power Index series and has undertaken the task of producing an encyclopedia on the Brotherhood, consisting of 35 books, with 12 books published to date, some of which have been translated into 15 languages. Furthermore, it publishes studies around the clock that cover various aspects of this topic and holds lectures and symposia that expose the falsehood of these movements.

Training

Training at TRENDS constitutes a strategic investment in human capacity-building and skills development. To coincide with its Bronze Jubilee, TRENDS recently launched the TRENDS International Training Institute, the Center’s training arm.

The Institute has achieved a paradigm shift in its programs through a strategic partnership with the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations (GSD), one of the leading academic institutions in this field.

The Center offers a diverse range of training programs targeting various segments, including those interested in public affairs, researchers, governmental and private entities, and decision-makers. The topics covered in these programs range from scientific research methods and methodologies to media, analysis and the theoretical foundations of strategic research and studies.

Youth Empowerment

TRENDS is deeply committed to empowering Emirati youth and developing their capabilities. It boasts a high nationalization rate of 52%, reflecting its focus on nurturing local talent. This is done by providing training and employment opportunities for recent graduates, supporting youth-led research, and organizing workshops and symposia that help develop their skills.

In partnership with the NAFIS initiative, the Center actively supports Emiratization efforts by focusing on building national competencies in scientific research and strategic studies, a contribution recognized with winning the Emirates LabourMarket Award.
