ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The Abu Dhabi Police's (ADP) Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols is employing interactive virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance traffic awareness as part of its strategic focus on road safety.

This initiative aims to promote proactive and innovative methods for traffic awareness.

Colonel Mahmoud Youssef Al-Baloushi, of the Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols, emphasised that integrating modern technologies, such as interactive VR, into police and security work is a key priority for the ADP.

Following the success of this advanced technology in virtual training, the police are committed to expanding its use.

The public, both young and old, has shown significant interest in this technology, encouraging the police to continue its implementation.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness, improve law compliance, protect lives and property, and enhance road and traffic safety within the community.

Major Ahmed Abdullah Al-Muhairi, Director of the digital traffic awareness project, explained that interactive VR creates a simulated environment that illustrates preferred and discouraged traffic behaviors in line with traffic laws.

The goal is to educate the public about the dangers of traffic violations, which often lead to severe injuries or fatalities.

The Directorate plans to use VR glasses during visits to schools, universities, traffic events, and exhibitions in shopping malls.

The hope is that the public’s enthusiasm for this immersive traffic simulation will help them learn how to respond correctly to traffic accidents, interact effectively with traffic officers, and adopt proper behaviors according to traffic laws and regulations.
