DUBAI (WAM)

Emirates Health Services (EHS), represented by Saqr Hospital, has announced the resumption of its early breast cancer screening campaign for the second consecutive year, in line with its ongoing commitment to enhancing health awareness and supporting preventive initiatives nationwide.

The campaign, organised in collaboration with the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) under the slogan "Initiate Action, Receive Hope", aims to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection and provide free screenings for women aged 40 and above.

Running from August until November 26, the campaign will feature 20 mobile clinics equipped with mammography and ultrasound machines to ensure the provision of top-notch diagnostic services. Additionally, the campaign will offer clinical examinations and other specialised tests for disease detection, as well as organise a series of awareness sessions to highlight the role of early detection in preventing and treating breast cancer and to educate about self-examination techniques.

Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of the Clinical Services Sector at EHS, emphasised that early detection of breast cancer is crucial in combating and preventing the disease. He encouraged the target audience to take advantage of the available preventive screenings, highlighting Emirates Health Services' commitment to providing comprehensive services at its health centres and affiliated hospitals. This initiative aligns with the UAE leadership's directives and the objectives of the "We the UAE 2031" vision, which aims to enhance the quality of life for all citizens.

Dr. Muna Al Ayyan, Director of Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, announced that this year the campaign has expanded to include regions in Ajman and Umm Al Qaiwain, having previously been limited to Ras Al Khaimah. Furthermore, the number of mobile clinics has increased from 10 to 20, allowing the campaign to reach a broader audience and maximize its impact.

She also mentioned that Saqr Hospital will host a variety of events and activities during the campaign period, including the Pink Friday events planned for October.

The campaign is part of a broader series of initiatives aimed at enhancing public health and fostering a culture of early prevention within the Emirati community. This year's efforts will focus on following up with individuals screened last year while maximising outreach to ensure that as many women as possible benefit from the programme.
