NEW YORK (ALETIHAD)
The UAE said in a statement before the Security Council on Thursday that peacemaking requires respect for humanity, commitment to international law, and the principles stipulated in the United Nations Charter. It add that the root causes of conflicts should not be ignored.
In a statement delivered by Ghasq Shaheen, Chargé d’Affaires, the UAE said that peacekeeping requires a new agenda for peace, and must consider regional and national aspects of conflict prevention.
It is also important to promote the principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, while combating hate speech and misleading and false information.
The UAE statement called for practical and diplomatic efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts, support recovery in post-conflict situations, and prevent conflicts from erupting again. Effective peace-building requires strengthening the rule of law, investing in good governance, and promoting the full, equal and meaningful participation of women at all levels and sectors.
