ABU DHABI (WAM)

Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO), has emphasised that under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has become a global leader in humanitarian work.

“The UAE presents an inspiring approach and model that not only alleviates the suffering of the underprivileged from various countries around the world but also helps them move forward in improving their lives,” Sheikh Abdulla said in a statement marking the World Humanitarian Day.

Sheikh Abdulla added that the UAE has always been committed to providing humanitarian and developmental aid to the most needy communities globally, given its humanitarian legacy and its principles of providing help, supporting peoples, and providing relief to those in distress, driven by the values established by the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

He continued by stating that extending a helping hand and assisting those in need worldwide, investing in humanitarian work, and promoting the values of solidarity, peaceful coexistence, and support for anything that contributes to strengthening peace, stability, and sustainable development are core values in the UAE society.

The UAE, he added, is always there to provide help during humanitarian crises, actively and efficiently contributing to easing the suffering of people in friendly and fraternal nations.

He also praised the significant efforts made by the wise leadership to enhance the UAE's capabilities to effectively address humanitarian crises and disasters worldwide.

NMO Chairman pointed out that Emiratis are always on the frontlines, helping their fellow humans, with a deep-rooted belief that all people have the right to live in peace, stability, dignity, justice, and equality.

UAE's Humanitarian Work

He further explained that the world recognises the UAE's extensive and ongoing efforts in relief and humanitarian work. These efforts, he said, include Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 to assist the fraternal Palestinians in Gaza; the UAE's efforts in providing treatment and securing daily needs for them; the “Tarahum - for Gaza” campaign; as well as the UAE's support for the Sudanese; and the effective and successful mediation in the prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia; among other initiatives and aid in various countries around the world.

"This has made the UAE a leader in the global humanitarian system and helped it rank first globally for several consecutive years as the largest donor of foreign aid."

Sheikh Abdulla added that humanitarian initiatives in the UAE are part of an integrated work system that upholds human values and considers helping the most needy people a fundamental strategy in the UAE’s vision, policy, and approach, aiming to support the stability, prosperity, and development of populations affected by crises and disasters.

"This has made the UAE one of the largest donors of foreign aid compared to its national income."

Media Role

He also drew attention to the significant role of media in highlighting inspiring humanitarian models, and the UAE's efforts in alleviating human suffering, as well as its contributions to humanitarian and charitable causes.

He stressed the importance of establishing an effective and sustainable partnership between various media outlets and humanitarian organisations.

He also noted the need to develop media discourse to accurately reflect the UAE's efforts in humanitarian work and the authentic values carried by Emirati society and passed down through generations.

He emphasised the importance of creating a positive and interactive relationship with the target audience, based on human communication and facts supported by numbers, and focusing on inspiring models and experiences.

Sheikh Abdulla concluded by reaffirming the significant role of the media in fostering the authentic humanitarian spirit among community members and encouraging them to take action to help their fellow human beings in need and those affected by crises.
