A recent survey conducted by Toluna, a leading global market research, consumer insights, technology, and consulting group, revealed a growing preference for electric vehicles among UAE residents, with 73% expressing a desire to purchase electric cars and 61% indicating an interest in hybrid models in the future.

This shift reflects the population's commitment to supporting the UAE's Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050 initiative.

While gasoline-powered vehicles currently dominate car ownership at 67%, the survey highlighted a growing interest in electric cars with 73%, and plug-in hybrid vehicles standing at 61%.

Future technologies also garnered attention, with 50% of respondents showing a preference for fuel cell electric cars and 40% for biofuel-powered vehicles.

Safety ratings (76%), car price (60%), and brand reputation (51%) are the key factors influencing car purchase decisions in the UAE.

Almost half of respondents (47%) view electric cars as the future of transportation, with 38% planning to buy an electric vehicle soon.

The importance of advanced technology (50%), improved fuel efficiency (35%), and enhanced safety features (26%) also play a significant role in purchasing decisions, the survey revealed.

Car ownership decisions are predominantly independent, with 62% of UAE residents making choices on their own.

However, family influence remains strong, with 73% consulting their spouse and 23% consulting their parents.

Financially, 50% of car purchases are self-funded, while others opt for dealer loans (13%), Islamic loans (20%), or non-Islamic bank loans (12%).

In the luxury segment, 71% of respondents own luxury cars and 39% own supercars, with future interest remaining high at 69% for luxury cars and 71% for supercars.

Among brands, Tesla leads in sustainability innovation with 47%, followed by Toyota (14%), BMW (11%), and Mercedes-Benz (8%).
