Dubai Astronomy Group has invited stargazers and astronomy enthusiasts to witness the spectacular Perseids meteor shower on August 12, 2024, at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, the highest peak in the UAE.
The Perseid meteor shower occurs annually when Earth passes through the debris trail of Comet Swift-Tuttle.
This debris burns up in Earth’s atmosphere, producing the bright, fast-moving meteors.
The meteor shower gets its name from the constellation Perseus, from which the meteors appear to originate.
According to the organisers, the astronomical event occurs every year between July 17 and August 24 and tends to peak around August 9-13.
The Perseids meteor shower is one of the most famous meteor showers due to its high frequency and brightness.
During its peak, viewers can see up to 100 meteors per hour, with some producing vibrant fireballs that last longer and are more visible than typical meteor streaks.
The event will take place between 10pm and 3am, with tickets priced at at Dh200 for adults and Dh175 for children under 13.
