The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, met with His Eminence Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, a member of the Muslim Council of Elders and the spiritual leader of Muslims in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The pair discussed various issues related to enhancing Islamic dialogue and the Council's upcoming projects, including preparations for the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate organized by the Council and the Faith Pavilion at COP29.
Judge Abdelsalam emphasised the importance of the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate, as it brings together faith leaders from around the world along with environmental experts, academics, civil society representatives, youth, women, and indigenous peoples to develop a shared vision to address climate change.
His Eminence Sheikh Pashazadeh expressed his full support for the efforts of the Muslim Council of Elders in addressing the challenges facing the Muslim community and enhancing Islamic dialogue. He also praised the Council's active role in promoting and establishing values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, building bridges of communication and dialogue with others, and activating the role of religious leaders in climate action.
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam also met with Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation, particularly in organizing the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate to be hosted by Azerbaijan and the second edition of the Faith Pavilion at COP29.
The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's exemplary model under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev in supporting international initiatives aimed at promoting values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence and building bridges of communication and dialogue between religions. He noted that the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate and the Faith Pavilion would significantly contribute to the inclusiveness of the conference agenda.
For his part, Ramin Mammadov affirmed his country's commitment to developing constructive cooperation and Islamic solidarity in various fields. He praised the strong relations between Azerbaijan and the Muslim Council of Elders and the Council's pioneering role in establishing a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
