The UAE's robust cyber security systems have helped prevent and contain digital threats swiftly to keep the country's institutions and its residents safe.

Early detection of malware attacks is vital and the country has been successful in detecting these attacks and neutralising them effectively, according to a report.

Acronis, a cybersecurity and data security company, in a report said the UAE's smart and upgraded systems saw a 11.7 percent increase in malware intrusions from January to May this year.

However, the country's digital infrastructure has tackled "ransomware threats, promoting resilience, and disrupting criminal networks involved in ransomware attacks have helped in lowering the rates of detecting malware attacks," said Acronis in its report.

In the first half of 2024, the UAE had different monthly percentages of global detections, with rates fluctuating between 0.8 percent and 1.9 percent.

Germany had percentages between 6.4 percent and 9.9 percent, while France's ranged from 3.6 percent to 5.5 percent, and the United Kingdom's from 4.3 percent to 6.1 percent, according to the report.

Ziad Nasr, General Manager for the Middle East at Acronis, said that the observations made in Acronis' H1 2024 Cyberthreats Report emphasise the important requirement for increased awareness and enhanced defensive tactics.

The report also said there was a whopping 293% increase in email attacks compared to the previous year worldwide.

The report mentioned that the UAE's monthly global detection rates were relatively lower than high-risk countries such as Germany, France, and Egypt, showing a growing yet still controllable cyber threat environment.
