The 20th Liwa Date Festival, which took place in Liwa city, Al Dhafra Region, from July 15 – 28, 2024, has welcomed 116,513 visitors and participation of 570 farmers in 23 competitions.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in a strategic partnership with ADNOC, the annual Liwa Date Festival emphasises the cultural importance of date farming in the Al Dhafra region, offering visitors a deep dive into the rich traditions and customs of the UAE. The event brought together people who grow, sell, market or specialise in dates — such as farmers, investors and germination specialists.

During the 14-day festival, farmers competed in 23 competitions with cash prizes worth Dh8.3 million.

The most essential events at the festival were the date competitions with the main ones being the award for the “Best Date Fruit”, the “Heaviest Date Branch” and the “Best Date Basket Display’’.

The event also featured date and fruit mazayna and model farm competitions, handcrafts, and a children’s village.
