The UAE has returned to the top 10 best destinations for expats in 2024, securing a place as one of the most desirable countries for expatriates to live and work, according to the largest global network for expatriates, Internations’ recently published report.
High Quality of LifeThe report, Expat Insider 2024, indicates that the UAE excels in the Quality-of-Life Index, ranking 3rd globally. The government’s environmental policies, infrastructure for cars, and security and stability are the standout factors. An impressive 86% of respondents commend the UAE for its environmental initiatives, significantly higher than the global average of 61%. Additionally, 91% of expats rate the car infrastructure positively, compared to 73% globally.
“It’s very safe, especially as a woman. I can go out jogging at night with headphones in and not even think about safety. People leave their front doors open,” an Australian expat shared.
Healthcare in the UAE also received high marks, particularly for availability (4th) and quality (6th).
Ease of Settling InThe UAE ranks 16th in the “Ease of Settling In” Index. Social life is relatively satisfying, with 60% of expats happy with their social connections, higher than the global average of 52%. The country scores well in Culture & Welcome (13th) and Local Friendliness (16th), indicating a welcoming environment for newcomers.
Expat EssentialsIn the “Expat Essentials” Index, the UAE shines, particularly in the Language and Admin Topics subcategories, both ranking 1st. About 80% of expats find it unnecessary to learn the local language (Arabic) to get by, compared to 48% globally. The country also leads in the Digital Life subcategory, thanks to the excellent online availability of administrative and government services.
Career ProspectsThe UAE ranks 6th in the “Working Abroad” Index, with 76% of expats agreeing that moving to the UAE has improved their career prospects.
