AMEINAH ALZEYOUDI (ABU DHABI)
With the approach of Eid Al Adha, toy stores in Abu Dhabi are expecting increased demand as distributing gifts is a long-held tradition bringing much anticipated holiday joy to children.
This year the holiday falls between June 15 and 18, and the local market is upbeat about the prospects of high demand during the holiday season.
Coupled with the festive atmosphere of the entire Eid Al Adha holiday period, Eidiya, or the Muslim tradition of gifting cash to children and family members by older relatives or family friends, also serves as a potential boon for toy stores.
Many stores in the capital are witnessing increased customer footfall ahead of the religious occasion.
“The place is filled with visitors and families who have children, all here to shop. We offer a wide variety of games suitable for all ages, from interactive and electronic to classic favourites. There is something for every child,” an employee at a toy store said.
Eid Al Adha is the second of the two most important holidays celebrated in Islam, and serves as a celebration through which to honour the values of sacrifice and generosity.
