A delegation from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), led by Director-General Christer Viktorsson, paid a visit to the Republic of Korea, where they met with key stakeholders to strengthen bilateral cooperation in matters relating to nuclear regulation, nuclear and radiation safety as well as research and development.
FANR met with its partners from the Republic of Korea’s Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC), where both parties exchanged updates on the ongoing regulatory activities and initiatives, including updates on nuclear safety, nuclear power plant oversight, as well as cooperation in radiation safety in medicine, among other topics of mutual interest.
FANR also met with the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), with whom they discussed matters of nuclear regulation and updates on their national nuclear energy programmes, in addition to exchanging operating experience, among other technical aspects.
Furthermore, FANR and KINS renewed a cooperation agreement covering regulatory oversight of nuclear facilities, nuclear safety regulations for advanced nuclear technologies, nuclear safety research, radioactive waste management, and other technical aspects.
In addition, FANR met with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), where they discussed the ongoing cooperation between the two parties in research and development and the current activities of the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center (ENTC).
FANR's cooperation with its Korean partners dates back to 2010, encompassing various aspects such as knowledge exchange, joint research projects, development of the UAE's nuclear regulatory framework, licensing, education and training, among other aspects. This partnership underscores the commitment of FANR and its Korean counterparts to foster bilateral cooperation in the advancement of safe nuclear energy technology and regulatory frameworks.
