Khalid Mohamed Al Qubaisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Energy Services Company (ADES), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, has confirmed the successful implementation of several rehabilitation projects for government buildings in Abu Dhabi this year. This initiative is part of the Emirate’s programme to rehabilitate government buildings, in coordination with the Department of Energy.

Speaking at the fourth Building Rehabilitation Technologies Summit “Retrofit Tech Abu Dhabi”, Al Qubaisi highlighted the company’s aim to achieve significant energy savings in both government and private buildings. By upgrading and replacing existing equipment and conducting regular maintenance, energy consumption has been reduced by 25-40%.

The initial phase of the programme, involving coordination with relevant parties on contracts and procurement, has been completed. The official launch aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings in line with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 strategy for energy demand management.

ADES is also exploring opportunities across various sectors, including a project to reduce water consumption in the industrial sector in collaboration with an industrial company. Additionally, there is cooperation with First Abu Dhabi Bank to rehabilitate its buildings. Al Qubaisi noted that ADES’s projects are funded through savings in energy consumption.

The Building Rehabilitation Technologies Summit, hosted by the Department of Energy and ADES, saw over 350 key decision-makers participate under the theme “Towards a More Sustainable Future”. Engineer Ahmed Al Falasi, Acting Executive Director of the Energy Efficiency Sector, discussed the Abu Dhabi Environmental Vision 2030, targeting a 22% reduction in electricity and a 32% reduction in water consumption by 2030.

The partnership between the Department of Energy and ADES aims to rehabilitate 39 government buildings, saving 35 gigawatt hours of electricity by 2025.
