Technology can play a pivotal role in fostering longer and healthier lives, particularly for aging populations, according to experts speaking during the “Global Tech Innovations for Active and Healthy Longevity” panel discussion held on the last day of Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2024.
Led by Dr. Nicole Sirotin, CEO & Chair of Preventive Medicine at IHLAD & Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, the session brought together professionals from various fields to discuss the transformative potential of technology in healthcare.
Dr. Omar Najim, Executive Director of Al Sager Health and Life Science at Al Sager Group Healthcare and Life Science (UASQ HLS), provided an overview of the utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving diagnosis and managing chronic conditions. He highlighted the importance of AI-driven solutions in enhancing healthcare outcomes and optimising treatment plans for elderly individuals.
Following Dr. Najim, Dr. Salman Rizvi, Head of Regional Medical Education & Digital Implementation at Viatris, emphasised the role of digital solutions in streamlining processes and improving patient care, particularly for older adults who may have complex medical needs.
Lars Hartenstein, Co-Leader at McKinsey Health Institute, stressed the importance of integrating digital tools and data analytics to improve efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare delivery, thereby enabling better outcomes for aging populations.
Dr. James Kirkland, Noaber Professor of Aging Research at Mayo Clinic, highlighted the potential of technologies such as regenerative medicine and “senolytics” in promoting healthy aging and extending lifespans.
The session concluded with remarks from Aejaz Zahid, Director of Innovation at PureHealth, who focused on the development of wearable devices and health applications to assist individuals in monitoring their health. He emphasised the importance of user-friendly and accessible technologies that empower older adults.
