The late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan left a sizeable mark in the sports arena, that has endured over the years, beginning with an interest in camel racing, the sport of the UAE’s forefathers.

The late Sheikh Tahnoun attended the country’s annual camel festivals and races, and launched Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan badge for camel racing, which was met with great enthusiasm from a mass of camel owners and breeders, not only from the UAE, but from the wider Gulf region.

The late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed each year used to visit the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition to show his support for heritage sports, whether camel racing, falconry, or equestrianism, supporting generations to connect over the preservation of history and tradition. 

The late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan’s support extended beyond heritage sports, encompassing to all sports, and he previously welcomed a delegation from Al Ain Sports Club at Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium in Al Ain city, the 2003 champion of the Asian Champions League, and he witnessed the historical achievements achieved by Al Ain at the local and international levels. 

His support extended to other games at Al Ain Club, where he received the club’s first volleyball team.

Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan participated in honouring the victories of the UAE’s many national teams and sports clubs, whether for achievements at the local or international level, making an enduring impact in the memory of athletes.

The Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Stadium served not only as a football field for the people of Al Ain, but as a second home that brought them together to witness many exciting achievements, and to make fond memories. The stadium felt the joy of the entire UAE as Al Ain Club became the inaugural winners of the Asian Champions League in 2003. The team went on to achieve the GCC Clubs Cup at the stadium, and many league and super championships.

Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan left an indelible legacy, which is carried on by his children and the younger generations who share his passion in the sporting arena, and follow in his footsteps to support UAE sports.
