DUBAI (ALETIHAD)

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) officially launched the ‘Green Fleet Rating System,’ which is a key initiative designed to reinforce sustainable practices within Dubai's commercial transport activities.

CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, said: “The system is dedicated to promoting eco-friendly commercial transport means in Dubai. It introduces a comprehensive rating system for commercial transport activities, to curb emissions from commercial vehicles in the emirate."

“The initiative encourages commercial transport companies to embrace green technologies, thereby reducing the carbon footprint. It also enhances air quality, environmental sustainability and boosts public health in Dubai,” he added.

“Companies engaged in transport and leasing activities under the purview of RTA are eligible to participate in the ‘Green Fleet Rating System.’ This initiative acknowledges the commitment of companies to the world’s top practices in environmental management. Participants receive RTA digital ‘Green certificates’, commending their adherence to these practices based on the evaluation criteria," Al Ali explained.

“The programme aims to improve the environmental practices of these companies, thereby elevating corporate social responsibility standards. RTA would also offer various incentives to motivate these entities to adopt greener methodologies,” he added.

It includes a comprehensive guide and rating system designed to assess companies' environmental practices.

This approach fosters a competitive atmosphere and encourages companies to enhance their use of eco-friendly transportation methods. More details on the guide are available on RTA’s website.

Al Ali continued, “The Green Fleet Rating System is a step towards a cleaner and greener future for commercial transport in Dubai. As the programme unfolds, we anticipate positive and widespread participation from companies committed to driving positive change to enhance sustainability practices in commercial transport sector."

“Embracing sustainability is not just a choice but a shared responsibility. The Green Fleet Rating System reflects RTA’s commitment to collaborating with companies to foster a sustainable future by implementing the highest international standards of the industry. The constructive approach reiterates our dedication to environmental stewardship and corporate excellence," he added.

“RTA's efforts go beyond just adopting eco-friendly means and vehicles; as we are spearheading a movement to broaden the adoption of innovative practices, standards, activities, programmes, and initiatives. These efforts aim to reinforce the concept of sustainability across all our services, catering to various segments of the society,” concluded Al Ali.
