The scholars - guests of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan - said that the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan established an effective approach in implementing sustaining charitable work, which truly made him a pioneer in humanitarian work.
Their comment came on the occasion of Zayed Humanitarian Day, marked annually on the 19th day of the holy month of Ramadan.
The scholars stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is following in the footsteps of late Sheikh Zayed in continuing humanitarian interventions and caring for humanity.
His Eminence Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani, Head of Al-Azhar Institutes Sector, said that Sheikh Zayed’s legacy is clearly visible in the UAE’s humanitarian response across the world.
“One of the most important pillars that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan established, and his sons followed in his footsteps, is good deeds that extend to all,” he said.
“Egypt is the best example of this, where Sheikh Zayed founded a complete and integrated city named after him - Sheikh Zayed City – located in Giza Governorate, in addition to several cities bearing his name in the country. The Sheikh Zayed Canal in Toshka, and many other humanitarian projects stand testimony to his legacy,” he added.
Dr. Ahmed Hussein Mohammad Ibrahim, a professor at Al-Azhar University, and one of the guests of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the late Sheikh Zayed left an enduring legacy as his humanitarian interventions still resonate across the world.
“There are very few who can inspire and shape the course of events. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan stood among those who were calm and peaceful throughout their life. His broad-mindedness, keen insight, patience and wisdom, are worthy of being a role model for humanity.”
For her part, Dr. Thana Abdel Azim Abdel Aziz, also a Professor at Al-Azhar University, said: “It is a pleasure for me to participate in the celebration of Zayed Humanitarian Day, the founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul in peace. As many of us know, the greatest burden in establishing states falls on the founders, in terms of strengthening the entity of the state and consolidating its foundations. His openness and generosity towards all made him an exemplary leader.”
