Although the holy month of Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, charity, and social cohesion, a new study has shown that UAE residents are reporting an uptick in interest in maintaining their physical fitness during the holy month.

The New Balance Ramadan Fitness Survey 2024, conducted by the global athletic-wear brand New Balance, sheds light on lifestyles of UAE residents during the holy month.

According to the survey, 76% of those surveyed are committed to improving their physical fitness during Ramadan. Likewise, 42% of those surveyed said that they exercise frequently during Ramadan, with 34% of participants reporting exercising less than usual.

The most preferred sports include walking (45%), running (38%), and aerobics (32%). A majority of respondents at 62% said that they prefer to exercise early in the morning, while 38% prefer to exercise in the evening. Additionally, 70% of participants indicated that they feel more energetic when exercising during Ramadan.

Furthermore, the study noted that 68% of participants stressed the importance of keeping the body hydrated while exercising during Ramadan. The survey results point to a growing awareness of the importance of physical fitness and overall health among UAE residents.

It also shed light on the ability of sports to enhance energy during the holy month without impacting the spiritual aspect.

The study highlighted the importance of providing a conducive environment for practising sports during the month of Ramadan, such as well-lit and air-conditioned sports facilities.
