SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 27th edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award commenced at the headquarters of the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar on Tuesday.
Bringing together Islamic scholars, preachers and reciters from around the world, the award aims to nurture a spirit of excellence in Holy Quran memorisation.
The Quran memorisation competition, running until the 13th of Ramadan (March 23) features 70 contestants from around the world.
Since its inception in 1998, the award has earned a global reputation for excellence in Quranic competitions and promoting Islamic values with wide global participation.
The award aims to inspire young generations to adhere to their religion, promote a spirit of competition in memorising the Holy Quran, honour distinguished memorisers, highlight their responsibilities in serving the Islamic world and emphasise Islamic values.
The award includes Islamic Personality of the Year, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mus’haf, International Holy Quran Competitions, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Contest, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Center for Quranic Manuscripts, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Quran Contest, Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed Contest for the Most Beautiful Recitation, and the UAE National Memorizer Programme. It also includes lectures and seminars, among other sessions.
The age limit to participate in the competition is 25 and applicants should not have participated in previous award sessions.
The award provides financial rewards and certificates for contestants, with prizes ranging between Dh60,000 and Dh250,000.
