The annual end-of-semester examinations for the 2023-2024 academic year commenced on Tuesday at government and private schools that adhere to the Ministry of Education's curriculum.

Students from grades three through 12 are set to undertake their exams until March 22.

The Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) has confirmed the exam schedules for Group A core subjects, following the recent completion of practical project submissions, for Group B subjects, that were done March 3 to 7. Grade 12 students will embark on their examination journey on March 13, starting with Mathematics. English language assessments are scheduled for all educational tracks on March 14.

The ensuing days will see general and advanced track students sit for the Health Science exam on March 15, while their peers in the elite track take Biology and the applied track students take Applied Science. The Physics exam is scheduled for March 18.

The Arabic language exam is planned for students across all tracks on March 19, followed by Social Studies on March 20, and Islamic Education on March 21. Grade 12 students in the general, advanced, and elite tracks will end their exams by taking either Chemistry or Biology on March 22.

Highlighting the examination methodology, the ESE has indicated that at government schools paper-based exams will be conducted for the third, fourth, fifth, and ninth grades, requiring physical attendance.

In private schools, both paper-based and electronic formats will be used for the ninth and fifth grades, also requiring physical attendance. Twelfth graders will also have both paper-based and electronic formats in the English language exam.

Twelfth-grade students from private education institutions will take their exams at public schools, under the joint supervision and coordination of school branch coordinators. Those enrolled in tolerance schools will adhere to specific instructions provided by their respective branches.

The ESE has organised the electronic exams in two sessions: the first lasting from 12pm to 1:30pm, and the subsequent paper-based session from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

In preparation for the exams, school administrations have been instructed to limit the number of students in examination halls to 25, barring larger venues, and to ensure optimal conditions including adequate lighting, ventilation, and seating arrangements. Staff members are required to sign a commitment form outlining their tasks and responsibilities, with the ESE warning of legal action for any negligence or breach of examination protocols.
