SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

As the holy month of Ramadan is approaching, charity organisations across the UAE have finalised preparations to provide those in need and underprivileged families with vital support.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time of spiritual reflection and charity, thus donating to people in need is greatly appreciated. Meals are served in mosques, malls, and other public venues.

Also, Ramadan tents represent the spirit of giving and sharing among individuals of many ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds who come together to break their fast. This stems from the UAE’s wise leadership and the righteous approach set by the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

‘Ramadan Continuous Giving’

Taking the lead, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) recently announced its seasonal Ramadan campaign titled “Ramadan... Continuous Giving”.

The ERC announced that its Ramadan initiatives would help 1.8 million people in the UAE and 44 countries around the world this year.

It includes Iftar, Zakat al-Fitr, Eid clothing, and Ramadan food parcels. It announced that 1,071,540 people across the country will benefit from Ramadan initiatives this year.

The ERC noted that the Iftar plan will feed 1 million people at a cost of Dh10 million.

Zayed Foundation’s Mir Ramadan Programme

In keeping with the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s approach, Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation accepts applications for the Mir Ramadan programme via their website.

The programme comprises the distribution of purchase vouchers to 1,500 low-income families in order to alleviate their financial worries and bring joy to their hearts during the holy month of Ramadan.

‘The Goodness Endure’

The Dubai Charity Association’s Ramadan campaign, under the title “The Goodness Endure” covers 17 countries in addition to the UAE, and more than a million people will benefit from the initiatives, according to the organisers.

The campaign includes constructing mosques, orphanages, providing water, extending their networks, and digging wells in countries and regions suffering from drought. It also involves distributing Eid clothing to children in underprivileged areas, building centres for memorising the Holy Quran, promoting educational projects, building clinics, and housing for the poor, among others.

‘A Recognised Right’

With a budget of Dh59 million, the Beit Al Khair association has launched its Ramadan campaign titled “A Recognised Right”. The initiative involves distributing food packages to underprivileged families to cover their needs for the entire month.

Fundraising

With the aim of supporting the poor, orphans, the sick, widows, debtors, and others, Dar Al Ber Society, based in Dubai, has launched their Ramadan campaign. It aims  to raise Dh160 million to assist tens of thousands of fasting persons inside and outside the country throughout the holy month.

‘Ramadan Basket’

The Sharjah Charity International has commenced its Ramadan campaign “Joud” (generosity in Arabic). The main feature of the campaign is the “Ramadan Basket” project, which provides food support to underprivileged families during the holy month. The basket contains 10 types of food, according to the charity. On a daily basis the initiative delivers 10,000 baskets to those who deserve it, the charity said.

‘Ramadan is Safety and Charity’

Al Ihsan Charity’s Ramadan campaign, under the title “Ramadan is Safety and Charity”, is expected to benefit 250,000 people. It will also distribute Zakat money to those who deserve it and deliver food parcels to needy families.

Eid Clothing

The Fujairah Charity Association implemented a slew of charitable programmes and projects, including: Zakat money distribution, Iftar, Zakat al-Fitr, and Eid clothing. Around 10,000 people are expected to benefit from the charity’s Ramadan initiatives daily.
