To ensure a proactive and effective response to severe weather, the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) held a series of meetings to monitor the low-pressure system expected to move through the country.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, the authority said that the UAE is expected to be affected by a low-pressure system from the south, accompanied by humid, south-easterly winds.

A high-pressure system and accompanying cold air mass, along with clouds moving in from the west and southwest, are also expected.

These meetings focus on integrating the roles and responsibilities of entities at the national and local levels to analyse expected impacts, assess preparations, and provide a rapid and coordinated response.

The National Centre of Meteorology analyses weather maps, data, satellite images, and radar networks across the country to study and monitor weather conditions to issue necessary reports and warnings.

The centre also shares information with other parties to coordinate responses in various regions of the UAE.

On X, formerly Twitter, NCEMA wrote, "We emphasise the importance of staying away from water accumulation areas, flooded areas, and regions expected to be affected by the weather conditions. We urge avoidance of gatherings that may affect the work of relevant authorities, with attention to the fact that non-compliance with official instructions and directives will carry legal action."

NCEMA also announced that the decision to switch to remote learning is left to the emergency, crisis and disaster management teams in each emirate, in the areas that will be unusually impacted.

The concerned authorities will close all roads leading to valleys, mountains, and risky areas, starting Friday and until the end of the low-pressure system, it added.

The decision to cancel tourist activities will be left to the local emergency, crisis and disaster management teams, it noted.

The authority stressed the importance of staying indoors and only leaving in cases of extreme necessity, and parking vehicles in distant, safe, and elevated places away from valleys, reefs, and bodies of water.

Additionally, it recommended taking preventative measures to protect property from hail.

Members of society were warned against misleading rumours concerning weather conditions and stick to obtaining all information from official sources.

"We would like to reassure everyone that all national and local teams are working in full swing to ensure the protection of all residents in areas that may be impacted by the weather," NCEMA stated.

Ministry of Interior Comments
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that safety, as well as the protection of lives and properties, are top priorities.

During the press briefing, the official spokesperson for the ministry, Brigadier General Dr. Ali Salem Al Tunaiji, said, “Plans and procedures for dealing with weather situations are carried out based on the highest standards and levels of readiness and in constant coordination with the strategic partners and the Police GHQs.”

Al Tunaiji noted that the ministry, along with all police teams, is fully prepared to deal with any emergency to ensure the security and safety of everyone.

The ministry called on the community to come together to ensure everyone's safety and security, stressding the importance of adhering to the directives issued by the relevent authorities.

This came based on Ministerial Resolution No. (178) of 2017 regarding preventive measures during emergencies and weather fluctuations.

Officials warned that failure to abide by the relevent directives is punishible by law, noting that consequences include fines and vehicle confiscation.
