HALA AL KHAYAT (ABU DHABI)

Marking start of the Dh7.7 million “Iftar” project, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) will begin setting up Ramadan tents across the UAE in the coming days. This endeavour is expected to serve over a million individuals during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This year, there will be an expansion in the number of tents and locations distributing Iftar meals.

The ERC is calling for donations to finance the 10-metre by 10-metre tents, which cost approximately Dh75,000 to set up in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra and approximately Dh57,000 in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah. The price encompasses the expenses for equipment, permits, lighting, air conditioning, electrical connections, supervision, and the provision of hot meals for 30 days.

The ERC is in the process of selecting companies to set up the tents and supply meals, ensuring compliance with its safety and quality standards.

The project is part of the ERC’s broader “Ramadan Continuous Giving” campaign, which has an overall budget of Dh22.9 million and aims to support 1,071,540 beneficiaries across the UAE. This support includes a Dh10 million Iftar programme benefitting around 1 million individuals, Dh5.6 million Ramadan food basket programme for about 35,000 individuals, and a Dh7.3 million Zakat Al Fitr initiative benefitting 36,500 people.

The ERC will also establish Iftar sites and Ramadan tents specifically for women for the first itme, starting with three locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ajman. The campaign strives to enhance community engagement and partnerships to bolster the ERC’s charitable activities. The initiative also seeks to extend the range of beneficiaries, provide more support to vulnerable groups, and make a significant impact on improving lives.

To facilitate donations, the ERC has designated about 321 collection points across the country, including in shopping malls, markets, and populous areas. Additionally, contributions can be made at the ERC’s centres, or via its official website, smartphone app, bank deposits, text messages, a toll-free number, and cash donation boxes.
