Al Ain City Municipality has enhanced its pivotal role in rehabilitating companion animals by applying the best leading practices in the field.

The municipality’s efforts in this regard reflect the keenness of the Department of Municipalities and Transport to apply the highest public health standards in providing care for free-roaming and neglected animals, especially those near residential areas and on main and secondary streets, in a bid to avert health risks on individuals and the environment.

Last year, the municipality organised 410 service campaigns to keep track of stray animals, which resulted in detaining 1,034 of them, including horses, camels, goats, sheep, cats, dogs and wild animals.

The municipality provides services in controlling free-roaming and neglected animals on public roads and residential areas through receiving complaints on 800555. The Public Health Administration in 2023 received over 11,000 complaints that resulted in detaining 3,378 stray animals in four shelters.

The municipality also provides services in public places, such as parks, receives companion animals whose owners no longer need them, provides necessary veterinary healthcare to them and offers these animals full care at specialised clinics.

Over the past three years, the municipality exerted enormous efforts in providing care for free-roaming animals through leveraging advanced technology.

It also seeks to raise awareness of the community on laws and regulations pertaining to animal welfare and preserve public health through organising workshops to raise public awareness on the municipality’s services in controlling free-roaming and neglected animals.
