HALA AL KHAYYAT (ABU DHABI)

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced a plan to open 135 new parks throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by the end of the year 2024 as part of the Foundational Living Strategy announced last year.

The strategy includes various projects related to providing infrastructure facilities such as pedestrian and cycling paths, beautification works, and community facilities like sports fields and mosques. These efforts aim to elevate the standards of quality of life, according to the DMT.

The Department explained to Aletihad that it launched the Foundational Living Strategy in line with the vision and priority of the Abu Dhabi government to build and provide an integrated and sustainable community environment, ensuring the stability and cohesion of the Emirate's society.

The strategy seeks to provide recreational spaces for families and children, promote interaction among community members, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. The parks will be designed to international standards, enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the region, and be equipped with various sports facilities such as tennis courts, basketball courts, table tennis, football fields, exercise areas, games, shades, lighting systems, seating, and rubberised and safe floors for children. Additionally, the park designs will include hills and small elevations for skiing practice, making the parks suitable for both sports and social activities, as well as family gatherings.

As part of its development plan for parks, the DMT will provide free Wi-Fi networks in 44 parks in the Emirate, in collaboration with telecommunication service providers in the country. The project is currently being implemented in 10 parks, and by the end of 2024, Wi-Fi service will be available in 44 parks in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The department aims to establish widespread Wi-Fi coverage, contributing to improving digital infrastructure. The service will be available in 19 parks in Abu Dhabi, 11 parks in Al Ain, and 14 parks in Al Dhafra, in addition to Abu Dhabi Corniche and Al Bateen Beach. Currently, the service is available on 478 buses, including 10 buses in Al Dhafra City, 67 buses in Al Ain City, and 459 buses in Abu Dhabi City.

As part of its smart parks initiative, the DMT transformed six parks in the Emirate into smart parks by providing 600 smart sensors for each location. These modern systems contribute to enhancing the quality of life and the standard of living in the Emirate.

Smart parks promote sustainability standards by relying on intelligent irrigation systems that allow precise control and regulation of water supplies based on plant needs and changing environmental factors. These sensors continuously and accurately collect data, helping achieve a perfect balance between plant needs, changing environmental factors, and achieving savings in water and energy usage.

Smart parks directly support the enhancement of the quality of life, aiming to improve the experience and satisfaction of park visitors, preserve the sustainability of the park environment, and enhance operational and administrative efficiency. Additionally, they provide comprehensive real-time data for the park, improving safety and security.
