Former Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has highlighted the importance of nations joining hands for a better planet and allowing new technologies to emerge in the fight against climate change.

In an interview with Aletihad on the sidelines of COP28, Kaljulaid said that Gulf countries and Europe can be partners in making cost-effective clean technologies to save the planet. She also highlighted that while governments bear significant responsibility in waste management, this practice should become a new norm, starting within individual households.

The former president also pointed to Estonia’s policy for climate change, where the country has approved a strategy to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2050. Kaljulaid further emphasised the importance of the private sector in advancing technologies in the climate domain, and highlighted the UAE’s technological and financial prowess in this regard.

She also praised the UAE’s hosting of COP28, expressing hope that the global conference will be a milestone in reaching significant outcomes towards mitigating one of the pressing issues of the present era: Climate change.
