The UAE's COP28 is hosting a myriad array of climate tech startups showcasing their latest cutting-edge solutions to combat climate change, covering various sectors such as sustainable transport, agriculture, solar energy, and several others.

One of these startups, Avani Eco, is leading the way in revolutionising packaging solutions through offering innovative solutions by producing eco-friendly packaging made from renewable resources such as cassava, corn and sugarcane.

Their commitment to delivering the most economical and best-in-class eco-friendly products is unwavering, with a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of petroleum-based plastic, Steve Kelbrick, one of Avani's shareholders, told Aletihad in an interview.

''One noteworthy milestone in Avani Eco’s journey is the UAE government’s guarantee of Dh2.5 million from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF). This substantial support, an initiative launched by the UAE Ministry of Finance, underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable practices. It serves as a testament to Avani Eco's dedication to making a positive impact on both the environment and the economy,'' he added.

Kelbrick said that the startup aims to use COP28 as a stage to showcase its innovative and sustainable solutions for reducing plastic pollution and promoting a circular economy.

''The startup's presence at this influential event signifies its commitment to being a driving force in the fight against climate change. By presenting their eco-friendly products and initiatives, Avani Eco hopes to inspire other businesses and consumers to adopt practices that are not only environmentally friendly but also beneficial for human health,'' he noted.

The importance of such startups cannot be overstated in the current climate crisis, Kelbrick told Aletihad, adding that Avani Eco’s participation in COP28 serves as a call to action for businesses and individuals alike. It highlights the urgency of adopting eco-friendly practices and products to create a sustainable future.

''Our startup aims to have a lasting impact on the global stage, as it sends a powerful message that sustainability is not just a choice but a responsibility that each one of us shares. Avani Eco’s journey towards sustainability is commendable. With a focus on innovation, eco-friendly products, and active participation in global events like COP28, the startup is setting an example for others to follow,'' he added.

Kelbrick said that they are trying to change this world for the better and they want others to do the same.

''Our products are the ones that will help save the planet and do the right thing that needs to be done. What we produce will be extremely useful and will help combat climate change impacts and save this planet. So our efforts focus on building a better world and healthier earth,'' Kelbrick added.
