Hala Al Khayyat (Abu Dhabi) - The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced that 23 new parks will open in Khalifa City by the end of the year. This initiative is part of the foundational strategy for living, which falls under the Abu Dhabi government’s vision to build an integrated and sustainable community environment.
This strategy ensures the stability and cohesion of the emirate’s community and encourages the adoption of a healthy lifestyle in a comprehensive community environment that aligns with the local Emirati culture and heritage traditions.
The first phase of the foundational living strategy includes projects worth Dh12 billion to develop community facilities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, including pedestrian and bicycle paths, playgrounds, clinics, mosques, parks, and green spaces.
According to the strategy, 113 new parks will be built in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by the end of 2023, distributed as follows: 70 parks in Abu Dhabi, 30 in Al Ain, and 9 parks in Al Dhafra region.
By 2025, 277 new parks will be constructed, with 180 in Abu Dhabi, 80 in Al Ain, and 17 in Al Dhafra region. The parks will be distributed across various regions of the emirate, providing recreational spaces for families and children, enhancing community interaction, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality opened a group of neighbourhood parks in Khalifa City last year, including Al Raneem, Al Mishtal, Al Hemma, Al Sadeem, and Al Talaal. The parks provide a recreational facilities and pathways designed for children of determination, contributing to ensuring comprehensive and equal access.
These integrated recreational parks and services are based in the concept of developing a community with equal rights and opportunities by empowering families of people of determination in a positive community framework.
The neighbourhood parks in Khalifa City are designed in accordance with international standards, and are equipped with playgrounds for various sports such as paddle tennis, basketball, table tennis, football, as well as exercise areas and equipment, games, shaded areas, lighting systems, benches, and safe rubber flooring for children. The parks also include small hills for skateboarding, and provide an air mist outdoor cooling system.
