SAYED AL HAJJAR (ABU DHABI) - Shams Solar Power Station, located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, is one of the major clean energy projects in the UAE, reflecting the nation’s unabating drive towards transforming the energy sector. It is one of the world’s largest concentrated solar power plants and the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The production capacity of the Shams station is 100 megawatts of clean energy, and it provides more than 20,000 homes in Abu Dhabi with clean electricity. The station contributes to avoiding the release of 175,000 tonnes of carbon annually.
The Shams station was inaugurated in 2013, and since then, it has played an important role in shaping the renewable energy sector in the country and the region.
The solar station is one of the giant steps taken by the UAE within its approach to achieving the transformation in the energy sector by increasing the share of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, embodying the nation’s commitment to preserving planet Earth.
The Shams station also paved the way for many other solar energy projects at the national level.
