AHMED SHAABAN (CAIRO) - Diplomats, experts, and World Health Organisation (WHO) officials have praised the significant, positive impact of the "Gallant Knight 3" operation, the implementation of which was directed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The operation is intended to assist the sick and wounded residents of the enclave through the comprehensive UAE field hospital. Chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and former Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mohamed El Orabi, commended the UAE's launch of the "Gallant Knight 3" operation, which stems from the nation's duty as an Arab state, and a staunch supporter of global humanitarian efforts.
Through the operation, the UAE seeks to establish a lifeline for the Palestinian people in Gaza affected by the ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing for over a month.
El Orabi told Aletihad that the UAE always strives to assist and support the people of the Arab world and expressed his appreciation for the "Gallant Knight 3" title, which he said symbolizes the characteristics of strength, boldness, and speed in assisting those in need with which the UAE is associated.
El Orabi pointed to the importance of Arab solidarity and integration in helping the Gazan people, adding that the UAE's generosity as shown through through the operation has had a profound impact on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in Gaza. The UAE not only provides humanitarian support, but also political support for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause, he added.
"Gallant Knight 3" is an important humanitarian step that complements the UAE's political towards the Palestinian people, stemming from its consistent approach focused on Arab solidarity and lifting injustice from the Palestinian people.
Field Hospital Dr. Gamal Esmat, a WHO advisor in the Middle East, praised the establishment of the comprehensive UAE field hospital in the Gaza Strip in light of the deteriorating health situation, exacerbated by the closure of a third of Gaza's hospitals due to bombings and a lack of fuel.
Esmat told Aletihad that the UAE field hospital in Gaza, equipped with volunteer doctors and medical staff, is extremely important for providing health and medical services to residents of the enclave. The hospital saves wounded, injured, and sick individuals from traveling long distances outside of the Gaza Strip to receive treatment, which weakens their chance of recovery.
The WHO advisor noted that the UAE field hospital is equipped with medical supplies and medication, and is able to treat cases in emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, and neurosurgery. The hopsital will undoubtedly play an extremely important role in reducing the suffering of the Gazan people, considering most hospitals in the Gaza Strip are closed or out of service.
Esmat also expressed his appreciation for the volunteer opportunities available for medical personnel to support the humanitarian operation. Al-Azhar University spokesperson Ahmed Zarea expressed his appreciation for the operation, noting that the UAE's humanitarian efforts and initiatives in the Gaza Strip have existed for many years. The current aid and support follow the difficult circumstances faced by the Palestinian people who are in dire need of support, confirming the UAE's valued stance, he said.
The field hospital's establishment follows the closure of several hospitals that were damaged due to the surrounding conflict. With thousands wounded, the initiative fills a significant gap in the health sector, Zarea said. In a statement to Aletihad, Zarea praised the UAE's charitable and humanitarian institutions, which rushed to provide help to those affected by the conflict.
These institutions are always at the forefront of humanitarian action and are among the first charitable entities to rush in and extend a helping hand to all. This is especially true in the current context, lifting the morale of the Palestinian people, he said.
Zarea said that this operation contributes to improving living conditions, especially after the destruction of homes, hospitals, and schools in the enclabve. The Gazan people are in dire need of urgent aid to help them return to normal life after the massive losses they have suffer in their property, belongings, and everything, Zarea added.
Zarea mentioned that he had previously lived in the Gaza Strip for nine years, and was the first dean of Al-Azhar University's Faculty of Media in Gaza.
He noted that he has witnessed many of the UAE's charitable and humanitarian initiatives in the enclave, including the establishment of many health centres, hospitals, schools, and Sheikh Zayed City. The people of Gaza appreciate and value this support greatly, he said.
"The UAE, standing with their brothers in Gaza in their ordeal and providing assistance to them, confirms that the UAE is at the heart of Arab principles, for which it has all appreciation and respect. I pray for the success of the humanitarian work that the leaders and people of the UAE offer to people all over the world."
