IHAB AL RAFAI (ABU DHABI)
Dr. Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical Education and Vocational Training (ACTVET), said that Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS), which is affiliated with the centre, has graduated 1,258 nursing students since 2010.
The college plays a pivotal role in increasing the Emiratisation rate in the country’s health sector, through its four branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ajman, and Al Dhafra. The college offers six advanced bachelor’s degrees in nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiology, medical ambulance and emergencies, and psychology.
It also provides scholarships for female Emirati students, and monthly stipends throughout the duration of their study, in addition to offering outstanding field training opportunities in hospitals, and employment opportunities after graduation, which serves as a testament to the college’s success in attracting more Emirati female students in various required specialties by introducing more new programmes that align with the needs of health institutions and future jobs.
Al Shamsi pointed out that the increase in the number of the college’s nursing graduates and other specialties reflects the success of the ACTVET in achieving the directives of the wise leadership to encourage citizens to enrol in Fatima College of Health Sciences, which bears the name of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. This constantly motivates the college to play its leading role in creating outstanding and specialised national competencies in nursing and other health specialties that are of utmost importance in the UAE’s hospitals and health institutions.
Significant expansionAl Shamsi added that FCHS implements the centre’s strategy towards a significant expansion to attract more students and apply the best international standards necessary to ensure leadership in the health specialties offered by the college.
He noted that the moral and financial support the college receives from the wise leadership solidifies its status, paving the way for employing the college’s graduates in more than 35 leading government and private institutions.
To name a few, they include the Ministry of Health, major hospitals, health companies, insurance companies, and other specialised medical and health centres and institutions, among them Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which employs 46 graduates of Fatima College of Health Sciences.
The college also has reached agreements and partnerships with the aim of enhancing the quality of nursing education.
As part of ACTVET’s agreement with the UAE Talent Competitiveness Council’s Nafis initiative, FCHS offers advanced programmes to attract 10,000 citizens within five years to take bachelor’s degree in nursing, emergency medicine, higher diploma, and health assistant diploma, providing them with specialties, skills, and expertise that ensure their employment according to the highest international standards, achieving the greater strategic goal of Emiratisation in the country’s health sector.
