DUBAI (ALETIHAD)
Engineer Kholoud Al Marzouqi from the Internal Audit Office at Dubai Police has become the first Auditor for Information Technology Systems and Smart Systems in the Dubai Police, a specialty considered among the most important in the profession.
Al Marzouqi began her journey via an educational sponsorship from Dubai Police, after which she joined the force as a programmer. She now heads the IT Audit Department.
Her new position of IT Auditor involves ensuring the efficiency of IT system application processes, database foundations, IT infrastructure, smart services, and information security. Auditing IT systems and smart systems ensures the sustainable efficiency in work systems, enhances IT operations, and ensures that Dubai Police’s technical work is conducted in compliance with laws, regulations, and internal decisions regulating information security.
Lieutenant-Colonel Dr. Mishaal Al Zarouni, Director of the Internal Audit Office at Dubai Police, said that the office is characterised by its outstanding employees. Dubai Police takes pride in its pioneering female staff across all specialties, reflecting a focus on empowering women and creating a working environment conducive to attracting the nation’s most talented, regardless of gender, Al Zarouni said.
“Today, I feel proud of my achievements in my field, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of the Dubai Police, a pioneering police institution. My journey began with them when I received an internal scholarship to study computer engineering at Sharjah University. After completing my studies and obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I entered the field, and in such a supportive and motivating environment, I was able to progress even more. This encouraged me and increased my ambitions to try and take on advanced tasks and strive to elevate our performance,” Al Marzouqi said.
Explaining the nature of her work, Al Marzouqi said: “Auditing the flow of technical and smart systems and compliance with operational and legislative procedures is fundamental and necessary. These form a strong shield for any institutional work reliant on technology and smart systems, especially given the continual rapid evolution of technology, which requires swift responses and flexibility in updating operational procedures.”
Al Marzouqi obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Sharjah University, and later, obtained a Master’s degree in IT Management and Governance. In addition to her academic achievements, she also earned a professional diploma from Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University. She was awarded first place in the 21st Middle East Women Leaders Excellence Award in the category of “Leadership Evening Award for Excellence in Managing Major Projects”. Furthermore, she won an award in the Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Programme for Excellence and Community Intelligence, after competing in the “Science and Technology” category, and secured second place in the Commander-in-Chief Excellence Award’s “Best Young Employee” category.
In her professional endeavours, Al Marzouqi has served as a project manager for “Walk-In”, the third phase of the Smart Police Stations (SPS) initiative, for three years. She is also a member of the Young Leaders Council of the Dubai Police, and has played an integral role as a member in organising the first and second versions of the INTERPOL Global Young Leaders Programme. Al Marzouqi is also a member of the Association of Internal Auditors in the UAE.
