KUUMAR SHYAM (ABU DHABI)
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has announced the official route for the eighth edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, scheduled to take place on December 12.
The 42.195-kilometre course starts and finishes near the ADNOC headquarters on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, directing runners past a some of the capital’s central cultural, historical, and sporting sites.
Participants will begin along the waterfront before passing The Founder’s Memorial, which honours the legacy of the Father of the Nation, the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The course continues towards Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Wahat Al Karama, which commemorates the nation’s fallen heroes, before extending through Zayed Sports City. The sports complex will also serve as the exchange point for the relay race division.
From there, the course will proceed past Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium (Al Jazira club), continuing into the city centre to feature Qasr Al Hosn, the World Trade Centre, and Etihad Towers.
The final stretch brings runners along the Abu Dhabi Corniche coastline back to the finish line at ADNOC Headquarters.
Organisers said that the landmarks reflect the ADSC’s commitment to "delivering a marathon route that captures the capital’s unique character and diverse attractions, while offering participants and visitors an opportunity to discover its cultural, historical and sporting highlights".
The eighth edition of the event is expected to attract both professional elite athletes and amateur runners across multiple race categories.
