Portugal travelled to the World Cup with a special tribute to late national team player Diogo Jota.
Before their departure for the US, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro presented each player with a green and red wristband, which bears the names of all the squad members and an inscription honouring Jota.
The Liverpool forward died in a car accident in Spain in July 2025.
"We really appreciate it," Portugal midfielder Vitinha told a first press conference late on Saturday at the team's World Cup base in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The prime minister had "left it up to us to decide whether and how we want to wear it."
The Paris Saint-Germain star said the squad had decided together to wear the bands throughout the tournament, including in training and during matches.
