KUUMAR SHYAM (ABU DHABI)
The BATL of Nations boxing event is scheduled to take place at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on April 4, serving as the sporting centrepiece of the annual Well B Festival.
Unlike traditional promotional models that rely on exclusive, long-term athlete contracts, the BATL platform operates as an open collaborative event designed to feature fighters from various global stables and gyms without restrictive ties.
A month to go, the upcoming card is set to be broadcast to a reportedly estimated 120 million homes internationally via the Ayozat network, marking a significant expansion for the UAE's combat sports landscape.
The evening's primary attraction features Hovhannes Bachkov, an Olympic bronze medallist currently ranked within the World Boxing Association's top five, facing Ruben Nestor Munoz.
The pair will contest the WBA Continental title, a championship frequently utilised as a statistical gateway to a full world title opportunity.
Bachkov enters the bout as the established favourite, though Munoz is regarded as a high-pressure opponent capable of upsetting the divisional rankings.
In the co-main event, female world No.2 Anahit Aroyan will defend her position against Alice Mbewe. This fixture also carries WBA Intercontinental title status, with the outcome expected to dictate the immediate future of the world championship mandatory challenger positions.
Both title fights are positioned as high-stakes encounters intended to provide clarity in the professional rankings of their respective weight classes.
A secondary focal point of the event is the BATL of Nations Prizefighter Tournament, an eight-nation knockout competition held over a single night.
The tournament follows a quarter-final, semi-final and final progression under professional boxing rules, with the format designed to eliminate the standard "tune-up" fights often found in the sport.
Promoters have confirmed that knockout bonuses will be in effect to encourage aggressive performance throughout the bracket.
The event is integrated into the wider Well B Festival, a multi-disciplinary wellness and fitness gathering in the UAE that includes yoga and various athletic activations.
BATL Co-founders Jamie Cormack and Michael Roos have stated that the promotion's objective is to provide a neutral platform for international talent to gain exposure without the burden of promotional exclusivity.
"This event is about collaboration," said Roos. "It is about working with the international boxing community to create something special. When fighters walk into that arena, they are carrying their nation with them. That energy is powerful."
By hosting the card at the Meydan Racecourse, organisers aim to merge the festival's community-driven atmosphere with a professional boxing broadcast reaching audiences across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
