Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed visits Challenge Sir Bani Yas 2026

Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan has attended the second edition of Challenge Sir Bani Yas.

The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region.

Challenge Sir Bani Yas was the first long-distance triathlon held in the Middle East and North Africa, and this edition stands as the largest event in the Challenge Family series, hosted across 28 countries worldwide.

Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan was accompanied on his visit by Sheikh Khalifa bin Saeed bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region, His Excellency Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, and several senior officials from the Al Dhafra Region.

During his tour, Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan explored the main races of the event, which feature elite internationally ranked triathletes. He also visited the Race Village, the central hub of the event, which offers a variety of activities and entertainment options for participants, families and spectators of all ages.

Challenge Sir Bani Yas is organised by ADNEC Group and presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Challenge Family, with support from ADNOC.

Challenge Sir Bani Yas continues to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global destination for endurance sports. It is known for its exceptional natural environment, world-class organisational standards, and a growing community of professional and amateur athletes.

The event also highlights the unique tourism offerings of the Al Dhafra Region and Sir Bani Yas Island. It reinforces Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra’s status as premier destinations for sports tourism, both regionally and internationally, while encouraging the local community to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

This year’s event brings together more than 103 professional athletes from 26 countries, with 4,813 participants in total from various age groups representing 93 countries. They compete in Long, Medium, and Olympic distance triathlon races, as well as a variety of community races throughout the weekend, providing two action-packed days of competition.

The full-distance triathlon includes a 3.8-kilometre swim, a 172-kilometre cycling race, and a 42.2-kilometre run. The medium-distance race features a 1.9-kilometre swim, an 82-kilometre cycling race, and a 21.1-kilometre run. Meanwhile, the Olympic-distance race consists of a 1.5-kilometre swim, a 36-kilometre cycling race, and a 10-kilometre run.

In addition to the competitive races, the event offers a wide range of community races designed for all ages and fitness levels. These races ensure a comprehensive and enjoyable sporting experience for families, newcomers to triathlon, and amateur athletes. They provide a unique opportunity for everyone to enjoy the spirit of competition and challenge amidst the stunning natural beauty of Sir Bani Yas Island.
