ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
The capital’s mats are ready as the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) puts the finishing touches on the Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Cup, set to begin this Saturday at the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy.
The two-day event stands as a landmark on the national sporting calendar, designed to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and elite competition. Action kicks off with the Under-12, U14, and U16 divisions, while Sunday’s focus will shift to the U18s and adults.
Beyond the medals, a total prize pool of Dh270,000 is at stake for the top-performing clubs.
Last year’s champions Baniyas Club return to defend their title against rivals Al Jazira and Al Ain, who finished second and third respectively.
Yousef Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said the event “provides a comprehensive competitive environment that helps female athletes showcase their technical abilities and gain more experience.
“As the UAE celebrates the Year of the Family, this championship embodies the vital role of families in supporting female athletes and motivating them to continue excelling. It also reflects the Federation’s commitment to expanding female participation and cultivating a new generation of champions capable of competing at the highest levels.”
For the athletes, the tournament represents more than just a trophy. Al Anoud Al Harbi, a purple belt representing Baniyas in the senior category, noted that the event carries unique prestige.
“Participating in the Mother of the Nation Cup is every athlete’s goal, as it holds significant symbolic value in addition to its competitive value,” she said.
The tournament aims to cement Abu Dhabi’s status as a global hub for the sport while providing a clear pathway for the next generation of female Emirati champions.
