ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
Abu Dhabi is poised to host one of the highlights of the international equestrian calendar when the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club (ADEC) stages the UAE President’s Cup International Showjumping from Wednesday to Sunday.
The five-day event, sanctioned by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) and the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, will offer a record prize purse for showjumping in the UAE totalling Dh3.24 million, and attract many of the world’s leading riders and horses to compete in a prestigious five-star competition (CSI5*).
Held at the historic Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club – founded in 1976 and long regarded as a cornerstone of equestrian sport in the UAE – the championship underscores the venue’s enduring contribution to the development of the discipline while further establishing the capital as a premier destination for elite showjumping.
The programme will comprise three concurrent international classes: the flagship CSI5* with prize money of €718,000 (approximately Dh2.85 million); a CSI2* offering Dh295,000; and a CSIYH1* for young horses carrying Dh80,000. This layered structure highlights ADEC’s dedication to nurturing talent across all levels and broadening the sport’s appeal worldwide.
Among the famous international names who have confirmed their entries are Germany’s Daniel Deusser, Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano, Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann, Switzerland’s Janika Sprunger, Britain’s Joe Stockdale and Belgium’s Abdel Saïd.
Founded in 1976, ADEC spans 54 acres and has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility blending tradition with modern amenities. Competitors and horses will benefit from FEI-standard indoor and outdoor arenas, air-conditioned stables, lush grass paddocks designed with animal welfare in mind, an on-site veterinary clinic and extensive training tracks.
For spectators, the event extends far beyond the arena, offering a sophisticated blend of sport and lifestyle. Premium hospitality packages will be available, alongside curated food and beverage options.
Family-oriented activities will include dedicated children’s zones with interactive equestrian experiences, ensuring the event appeals to visitors of all ages. Live entertainment throughout the five days will culminate in a grand closing ceremony, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The combination of world-class athletic competition, generous hospitality and broad accessibility, including free general admission, the UAE President’s Cup is set to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a hub for elite equestrian events.
