The German team Skyliners have been crowned champions of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi, after defeating the American team Miami 19-17 in the final.

The tournament – organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in cooperation with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) – took place over the weekend. Fourteen teams competed in a purpose-built venue near the south entrance of Marina Mall.

The German side progressed through qualifying rounds to the final unbeaten. Led by Stefan Kojic and Leon Fertig, they adopted an attacking approach and defeated the Serbian side UB in the semi-final. UB eventually finished third.

Team Miami arrived on a high following a series of impressive results in recent months. They reached the final undefeated since the group stage, having beaten Amsterdam RaboBank in the semi-final to secure their spot.

The World Tour event carried a total prize fund of $200,000 of which $40,000 went to the champions, $30,000 to the runners-up and $22,000 for the third place.

The German champions received the tournament prize of $40,000 in the presence of ADSC officials, Dr Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Assistant Secretary-General and Saeed Al Mehairi, Executive Director – Sports Development along with other officials.
