ASILA AL BADI (ABU DHABI)
The Hudayriyat Women’s Cycling Series - a platform dedicated to empowering female cyclists in the UAE - is returning for a second staging, kicking off on October 19 with a prize pool of Dh50,000.
Organised by Hudayriyat Island, developed by Modon Properties, the new season will feature four themed races highlighting key social causes, including Breast Cancer Awareness, World Diabetes Day, and Men’s Health, before culminating in a 72-kilometre Grand Finale on December 7.
Designed to celebrate both performance and consistency, the series challenges riders to complete at least three of the four races – ranging from 30km to 60km – to qualify for the coveted Yellow Jersey and the Series title.
In addition to the main races, each round will host community rides on shorter, non-competitive tracks open to participants of all skill levels, reinforcing the event’s focus on inclusivity and health awareness.
Recalling her participation from last year, Masha Babynina said: “It’s a great way to experience racing with strong girls. I would recommend joining the series, participating in such race is a great way to begin a cycling journey and get connected with other riders.”
Echoing her sentiments, another cyclist Emillie Mikulla, said: “Beyond the actual race it was so good to see the event open to everyone via a community ride, with many families in attendance. And the overall ambience was very inclusive and positive.”
The strong turnout, she added, “shows there is a demand for women’s racing in the UAE. It’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people and you get the choice to do one or all four races. It can test your fitness and racing capabilities.”
Post-race ceremonies will be held at the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club, in collaboration with Women Moving Forward by UAE Team ADQ, underscoring the nation’s commitment to advancing women’s participation in sports. Registration is now open at www.hudayriyatisland.ae.
