Three mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes will be vying for the Best Emirati Athlete title when the jury convenes for the latest Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports

Awards, after the list of nominees was announced on Wednesday.

The annual awards are held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.

The winners of the various categories will be announced on November 13 at a ceremony to be held in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

The list provided by the jury includes the top three candidates for each category under the Awards, totalling eight for individuals and groups. The nomination process has witnessed a great registration turnout from various Arab nations since the establishment of the Awards.

Teenagers Asma Al Hosani (jiu-jitsu) and Ghala Al Hammadi (MMA) along with 21-year-old Ahoud Khalifa Al Kaabi (jiu-jitsu) have done the country proud with their achievements, but one will get the cherry on top.

The Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards, organised by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Academy, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, is the first of its kind in the region and has received wide attention in the Arab sports community.

In each iteration of the Awards, a special award is also given by the jury to honour the Arab Sport Personality of the Year for her outstanding performance and contributions to the advancement of women’s sports in the Arab world.

It aims to empower women and highlight their achievements in the sports sector, improve participation levels of women athletes, enhance competitiveness and excellence in women’s sports, and create a stimulating and supportive environment for women athletes to advance to the highest levels.
