The National Olympic Committee (NOC) has unveiled details of the UAE's participation at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, which will see 10,500 athletes compete in 32 sports across 329 events at 35 venues.
The UAE delegation comprises 14 athletes accompanied by 24 people across administrative, technical, and medical staff. The athletes will compete in five sports: equestrian, judo, cycling, swimming, and athletics.
Show jumping rider Omar Al Marzouqi will carry the UAE flag at the opening ceremony on July 26, which will be held outside the stadium for the first time on the Seine River with about 160 boats of all types and sizes.
"I would like to congratulate the sports federations participating in the Paris Olympic Games who have worked diligently over the past four years to reach this historic moment awaited by athletes from all over the world," said Faris Al Mutawaa, Secretary General of the NOC, at the news conference at the Shindagha Museum in Dubai.
Thanking the support of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the NOC, Al Mutawaa then expressed his confidence in the UAE delegation to do well at this staging of the Olympics Games with a "special historical character" and factors such as trying to get equal participation in male and female athletes.
The choice of the announcement venue, the heritage Shindagha Museum, also reflected well on the details of the UAE House in Paris, which were shared by Al Mutawaa. The UAE Olympic House "includes authentic national heritage, historical and cultural legacies we are proud to belong to," he said. It will be open daily from 10am to 8pm on the fashionable street Rue Cambon that lines Ritz hotel in Paris.
"The UAE House will offer a unique experience for all visitors to discover the inspiring journey of the Union, and experience Emirati hospitality. It will feature a wide range of activities and events with a dedicated programme for visits by UAE Olympians," Al Mutawaa added while also extending the invite to everyone, especially sports councils and fans in general.
