Two people, including a six-year-old, were killed and 10 others were injured after a truck plowed through a youth football game in Kansas, USA on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Emergency officials were called to the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita at around 3:25pm Saturday and arrived to find people on one of the football fields giving first aid to the injured, said Capt. Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department. Police found the driver, a 34-year-old woman, and two children inside the truck that barged onto the field.
A 6-year-old boy and an 35-year-old man were killed, officials said.
Names of the victims were not released.
At least 10 others - including five children - were taken to area hospitals to be treated for bruising and other traumatic injuries, though none were life threatening.
The driver, whose name was not given, was in police custody Saturday evening, though it was unclear if she was under arrest. Police said one of the woman’s children was playing on another field at the complex on Saturday.
"We are still working to determine how and why this happened,” Moses said, adding that investigators had interviewed more than 30 witnesses and were working on obtaining surveillance footage from the facility. Investigators, he added, were seeking video of the events from the public.
Police said the driver had a valid license and had no arrest warrants.
Teams from the Sporting Wichita Academy, a football club league for all ages, were playing at the complex on Saturday. The league did not immediately return a request for comment.
