At World Governments Summit 2026, Lana Al Wreikat, UNICEF’s Director for the Gulf Area, delivered a clear and urgent message for global partners to provide more support for children, youth, and marginalised families, especially in conflict zones.
“Our core message to decision-makers is anchored in the well-being of children, adolescents, mothers, and vulnerable families, particularly in areas affected by war and conflict,” Al Wreikat told Aletihad on the sidelines of the summit.
“We hope the support continues not only financially, but also in pushing for sustainable and peaceful solutions,” she added.
With the 2030 target for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approaching fast, she emphasised that it is time to engage with governments and partners on delivery, and what follows.
“A key focus now is harnessing artificial intelligence to protect children and improve education and health systems. We are working with Gulf governments, including the UAE, because technology is essential to improving social services,” Al Wreikat said.
However, she noted that many countries still lack access to technology, and that digital divide can widen inequality. “Our role includes advocating for equal deployment of these tools worldwide,” she said.
UNICEF’s vision is not just about relief, Al Wreikat said, but also about rebuilding lives and futures and sustaining well-being.
