STUTTGART, GERMANY (dpa)
A 12-year-old child was killed by a tram in the south-western German city of Stuttgart on Friday after reportedly being pushed onto the line by a 13-year-old after an argument.
The alleged perpetrator has been handed over to the youth welfare office, the public prosecutor's office announced.
The incident occurred at a tram stop near the Max-Eyth lake in northern Stuttgart at around midday.
The child was hit and fatally injured by a tram on the U12 line. A police spokesman declined to say whether other children were involved in the dispute.
The mother of the 13-year-old was present when the police spoke to him. After that, he was handed over to the youth welfare office.
There were several people on the tram who were presumably potential witnesses, but the police spokesman was unable to say how many. The travellers were looked after by a crisis intervention team.
Criminal police have launched an investigation and are asking witnesses to come forward.
