Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, is emerging as a strong contender for the next NATO Secretary-General position, receiving support from both Hungary and Slovakia.

Rutte recently held discussions with Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, in Brussels.

Slovak President, Peter Pellegrini, announced in a press conference that after consultations with Prime Minister, Robert Fico, and the Slovak government, Slovakia is open to backing Rutte for the role of NATO Secretary General.

To secure the position, Rutte needs the unanimous support of all 32 NATO member countries.
